Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation
A thorough, compassionate evaluation to understand your unique needs.

About Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation
A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment conducted by a licensed psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner. It is the essential first step in getting the right care.
During the evaluation, your provider will take a detailed history of your mental health symptoms, medical background, family history, and life experiences. This allows them to form an accurate diagnosis and recommend an appropriate treatment approach.
Unlike a therapy session, a psychiatric evaluation is focused on diagnosis and treatment planning — not ongoing talk therapy. It typically results in a written report, a diagnosis (or differential diagnosis), and a recommended care plan that may include therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or a combination.
Who We Can Help
- Individuals experiencing persistent depression, anxiety, or mood swings that interfere with daily life
- People who have never received a formal mental health diagnosis but are struggling
- Those considering medication management for the first time
- Individuals transitioning from another provider who need a fresh evaluation
- Anyone referred by a primary care physician, therapist, or family member
What to Expect
Your first appointment lasts 60–90 minutes. Your provider will guide the conversation — there are no right or wrong answers.
You will be asked about your current symptoms, when they started, how they affect your daily life, and any previous diagnoses or treatments.
You may be asked to complete standardized questionnaires before or during the appointment to help your provider assess symptom severity.
At the end, your provider will share their initial impressions and recommend next steps — which may include follow-up appointments, medication, therapy referrals, or additional testing.
